Midnight at Pier Nine

At 00:17, a night watch officer opened chamber N-9. Dr. Mara Vale sat beneath its emergency speaker, apparently uninjured. The speaker repeated an old recording in which Vale told a frightened child that memory was merely another thing adults could rewrite.

Vale had founded Aster House, an abusive behavioral program later buried through settlements. Hours before her death she threatened former staff and surviving subjects with professional ruin. She planned to sell their recordings as leverage.

The postmortem places death between 23:55 and 00:12. Vale was first incapacitated with clinical sedative S-17. Oxygen deprivation caused by the chamber atmosphere system was fatal. Its occupancy interlock should have made the purge impossible.
